Barbara Fields was named Executive Director of Rhode Island Housing in January 2015. Fields has 30 years of experience in expanding access to housing, building livable communities and leading economic development efforts. Max Kanarek started his career doing rent collections in the subsidized housing arena in Jasper and Mobile, Alabama. Apart from this he was also engaged in selling ice melt shovels and hardware door to door in Brooklyn New York at the age of just 18. Max spent much of his career in the merchant service/B2B service arena having assisted in raising over $80 million in debt for niche Micro Loan companies. He also advised on a holding company that purchases credit card residuals and then advised them on building out their sales engines, creating large scale strategic partnerships. He went on to advise companies in P2P and B2B of niche lending products to grow out sales channels and originate debt lines in order to eventually raise institutional debt.
Apart from Sapphire, Max is Managing Director at Lightstone Management, which is a private real estate fund that leverages the real estate market and helps in building long term projects. During his time there, Max has tripled the firm’s AUM to $97 million.
Apart from responsibility as managing director, he has taken the lead in the firms VC arm and oversees its other investments including a lighting distribution, a niche maintenance service company, and a few others. He is also involved in studying details of current fund searches and open mandates issued by investors.
Specifically, he views those issued by investors of particular types and locations, or for specific fund strategies and structures, helping them to achieve their target and meet their expectation by providing best available finance strategy and service.
